Gardener’s Gift Guide: Local Treasures for Every Gardener
Gardeners are notoriously hard to shop for (mostly because we already treat ourselves anytime we see a cool plant), so consider this guide both a public service and a not-so-subtle hint to my friends and family of things I’d like to see under the tree this year :) I’ve done my best to curate a list of all my favorite locally sourced gifts because we should all try to support small businesses this Christmas. As a small business owner myself, I can guarantee that we all do a little happy dance every time people shop small.
For the Gardener Who’s Always Losing Their Supplies
Leather Tool Belt: helps keep the essentials where they belong. My belt has been an absolute game-changer. No more losing my snips and notes in a pile of weeds at the end of the garden, they’re always on my hip right where I need them! Seattle Seed Co is a regional company that sells a great belt.
Snips & Shears: there’s nothing better than a crisp, clean cut. Felco is my favorite brand and I have the snips for cutting flower stems and the shears for cutting larger branches. I love that you can order shears from Small, Medium, and Large hands for a more ergonomic cut.
Garden Gloves: you literally cannot have too many gloves. They don’t need to be fancy, my personal favorites have rubber tipped fingers so they have maximum flexibility but I love these long leather gloves from WomansWork for pruning prickly shrubs. Extra points if you buy these at your local hardware store instead of ordering from Amazon!
The perfect gift card: Wilco is my go-to local store to grab gardening necessities and has a little bit of everything!
For the Gardener Who Has (Almost) Everything
Red pig garden tools: these guys are so cool! Their handmade tools are incredibly well made and look gorgeous. I have their trowel, digging fork, and hand-held weeder and they are the most used tools in my tool shed.
Big Oak Dried Floral Wreath: gotta plug my own business! I handmake all these wreaths from natural willow branches and flowers I’ve harvested and dried all summer. You can contact me to purchase a wreath or visit me at the Mac Market Holiday Market on December 20th where I’ll be selling lots of these beauties! They make the perfect gift because they look good displayed all year-round.
Minthorn Mercantile Workwear: this shop in Newberg has the coolest collection of sturdy workwear brands. Most of it is menswear, but they’re adding more women’s lines. And honestly, I wear men’s jackets and shirts all the time when I’m out in the garden! Check them out if you want to be the best-looking gardener in your neighborhood ;)
The perfect gift card: A new nursery is coming to McMinnville soon - Berry Creek Gardens opens in spring 2026 and will be offering gift cards soon. I’m so excited for their plans for pottery, unique plants, and local goods.
The Hardy Plant Society of Oregon is a fantastic local organization that offers Gift Memberships. They host expert speakers, After Hours events, plant sales, and so much more!
For the Gardener who’s Always Dreaming of Spring
Sustainable Rituals Nail Brush: we do our best to keep our nails clean, but when we’re digging in the mud we get grimy fast! I always keep a nail brush like this one at the kitchen sink to clean the dirt (and while you’re buying that, get a bar of soap for your gardener, too. We’re always dirty).
Summertime Seed Co: these local farmers are doing some amazing things with seeds and I love their cut flower offerings! Get a bunch of packs of seeds for your gardener to add to their collection. Never too many seeds!!
The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener: Niki Jabbour is such a great author, I love her books! The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener is particularly inspiring for gardeners who want to eat from their gardens even in winter, but I also love her other book, Veggie Garden Remix, that has tons of ideas for growing unique vegetables. They’re available in local bookshops or online.
The perfect gift card: Kraemer’s is an awesome small nursery in McMinnville.
For the Gardener Who’s All About Pollinators
Victory Garden of Tomorrow “Pollinator-Friendly” garden signs: I’ve wanted one of these signs for my garden for so long! They’re so cute and perfect for those of us who love to share our spaces with the birds and the bees.
Willamette Wildings native seeds: starting native plants from seed is so rewarding. I have a huge collection from Willamette Wildlings and am planting a native meadow full of lupine, yarrow, and goldenrod.
Silver Falls Seed Company: someone recommended this company to me and I can’t wait to try them.
The perfect gift card: Green Seed Gardens is located in Canby and has an amazing selection of PNW native and drought-tolerant plants, and they are so knowledgeable on landscaping and design!
