Photo Tour: What’s blooming on the farm in June
June of last year, I sold my very first flowers ever. This year, the flower field has quadrupled in size!! I quit my job in April 2026 so I can focus on growing more flowers than ever. We’ve been taking flowers to the Sherwood Farmers Market every Saturday, we’ve done pop-ups and U-Picks, bulk flowers for weddings, offered a June Flower Club bouquet subscription, and had florists come to buy our flowers. I couldn’t be more excited for the rest of the summer!
I thought I’d share some photos of what’s blooming on the farm right now to share some of that beauty with you.
And if you want to come visit us in person, be sure to check out our U-Pick and Bouquet Workshop schedule so you can come pick your own flowers!
Also, sneak peak at the end of this post to see our brand new rainbow dahlia patch 😍 and finally, I’ll share some of the hard lessons learned this year.
The marigolds started blooming in our mid-June heatwave. So excited to have these colorful cuties back in bloom.
Maybe someday I’ll have a big van for deliveries, but for now I’m able to cram a whole lot of flowers in my pickup!
Compression socks might look goofy but they save my feet when I’m working outside all day :)
This is what the flower field looked like last year in 2025 - I only had this small patch to work with. Now we’ve quadrupled our growing space!!
Everyone’s favorite June flower, the ever-cheerful feverfew
I’ve been harvesting marigolds by the bucketfuls to make garlands
Sunsets are stunning out here
Note to self - plant even more feverfew for next year!!
Come visit the farm this summer!
We have opened up dates for U-Picks and Bouquet Workshops so you can come visit Big Oak and pick your own flowers :) I LOVE these events and love sharing this beautiful place with you.
Big Oak Flower Farm U-Picks are located less than an hour south of Portland, 10 minutes from Newberg, Oregon, and we’re next to Champoeg State Park. Grab a ticket and we’ll see you out here!
My mom, Charlotte, gets to pick flowers whenever she wants!! Perks of having a flower farm as a daughter ;)
What’s blooming in June
We had a 95 degree heatwave in Mid-June which really stressed all the tender spring plants like sweet peas, so I’ll have to rip them all out soon and plant more summer flowers!
I’ve been so excited for the summer colors coming in - rich oranges, bright purples. Here’s a bunch of photos of what’s in the field blooming now.
What we’re working on next
The next big thing to come is the new dahlia patch! I planted 300 dahlias in these rows all set up in an ombre rainbow - starting with white, yellow, pink, orange, red, then purple dahlias! I’ve left a big square in the middle so we can put tables in there for U-Picks.
Forrest shows off the new dahlia patch. Imagine a table here in this open space where you can visit and arrange your own bouquet from flowers you picked yourself!
Some lessons learned this season
The biggest struggle I’ve had since switching to full-time flower farming is not having any time off…Living on the farm means I’m always steps away from my flower field and the endless to-do list. Luckily I’ve hired some great help, but I’ve never worked harder in my life.
Madeline and I are huge WNBA fans! So far we’ve been to 2 Portland Fire Games 🏀
So grateful for this beautiful life with my sweetheart
I am trying to find a bit of balance between working nonstop and also needing to run a successful business now that I don’t have a regular paycheck ;) Yesterday, I took my first full day off in 2 months and it felt wonderful! Turns out I just needed to lay in the hammock for a few hours and not think about flowers for a bit to finally feel recharged.
Going forward, I’m definitely going to schedule in some more rest time. I can’t injure myself like last year and spend the whole summer with my arm in a brace again!! That was crazy. I feel incredibly lucky to do this full time and share these gorgeous flowers with you. If you’re ready to get some Big Oak in your life, we’ve got several ways to share in the beauty:
U-Picks: Come visit the farm, wander the field and pick your own flowers
Bouquet Workshops: These include a farm tour, a U-Pick, and then you’ll learn all my best flower arranging tips and go home with your own beautiful bouquet!
DIY Bulk Buckets of Flowers: Looking to DIY your own bouquets for your wedding, baby shower, or event? You can get flowers from me in bulk at an affordable price.
